The Global Standard
KNX is the international standard for home and building control — trusted in over 190 countries, supported by 500+ manufacturers, and running in more than 500 million devices worldwide.
Oricom Tech Solutions is a KNX-certified integrator — one of the few in Nigeria — authorised to design, install, and commission complete KNX systems using ETS6 software.
In Simple Terms
Ordinary electrical wiring just switches things on and off. KNX wiring does something far more powerful — every device in your building can communicate with every other device, respond to conditions automatically, be controlled from anywhere in the world, and be programmed to behave exactly how you want.
It is the foundation that makes a truly smart home possible — not a collection of disconnected gadgets, but one unified intelligent building that works for you.
What is KNX
KNX is the only worldwide open standard for home and building control. Every device — from a light switch to an HVAC controller — communicates using one common language over a single bus cable, eliminating the problem of isolated devices and fragmented systems.
Unlike proprietary smart home systems, KNX is manufacturer-independent. Products from 500+ brands all work together seamlessly because they all follow the same certified standard — giving you complete flexibility in product choice, system expansion, and long-term support.
KNX treats automation as building infrastructure — like electrical wiring or plumbing — designed to last decades, not seasons.
How It Works
A KNX installation runs on a 2-wire bus cable that carries both power and data to every device. Sensors (switches, presence detectors, thermostats) send commands. Actuators (switching modules, dimmer modules, HVAC controllers) respond. All programming is done in ETS6 and stored directly within devices — no server required, no cloud dependency.
Applications
Switching, dimming, scene management, circadian rhythm lighting, presence-based control, and daylight harvesting.
Fan coil control, AC integration via gateways (Intesis, Zennio), room-by-room temperature management.
Motorised curtain and blind control, scene-triggered positioning, wind and sun sensor integration.
Pump scheduling, filtration control, pool lighting scenes, cover motor control, and safety interlocks.
Load monitoring, solar integration, battery SOC-based switching, and generator interlock via binary inputs.
Door and window contacts via binary inputs, alarm integration, access control triggers, and CCTV scene linking.
Scene-triggered AV control via Nice Elan, projector lift integration, one-touch cinema mode.
Energy sub-metering, water monitoring, presence analytics, and remote diagnostics via KNX IP.
Why KNX
KNX is manufacturer-independent. 500+ brands, 8,000+ products — all certified to work together. You are never locked into one supplier. If a product is discontinued, any equivalent from any certified brand replaces it.
All logic is stored within the devices themselves. The system runs without internet, without a server, and without subscription fees. A KNX installation commissioned in 1995 still works today — unchanged.
Start with lighting control in one room. Expand to full building automation years later. KNX grows with the building — new devices are simply added to the bus and programmed in ETS6 without disrupting existing functions.
Every KNX product passes rigorous third-party certification before being sold. Interoperability is guaranteed — not assumed. This is why KNX is specified in hospitals, airports, government buildings, and luxury residences worldwide.
KNX Secure adds AES-128 encryption to KNX installations — protecting against unauthorised access and cyberattacks. Available on compatible devices and IP routers for installations that demand the highest security.
KNX integrates with IoT, IP networks, voice assistants, and energy management platforms. KNX IoTech — the latest evolution — extends the standard into the connected future while maintaining full backwards compatibility.
Oricom Tech Design Standard
Every Oricom Tech KNX installation is designed from the outset to support five independent control methods simultaneously — giving occupants complete flexibility regardless of how they prefer to interact with their building. No single point of failure. No single mode of access.
Control any function — lights, AC, pool, blinds, scenes — with natural language voice commands via Nice ELAN's native Mylo voice assistant. No third-party cloud. No external dependency.
Capacitive KNX push buttons and touch panels mounted at every key point in the building — Eelectron 9025, GVS Waltz, and equivalent — for direct, instant control without any device or app.
Full system control from anywhere in the world via the Nice Home Management app on iOS and Android. Lighting, HVAC, pool, security, and access — all accessible remotely in real time.
Standard wall switches wired to KNX binary inputs operate alongside the smart system. No mains voltage on the switch — just a signal contact. Any competent electrician can maintain these without KNX training.
Dedicated touchscreen panels, the Nice ELAN HR40 handheld remote, and mobile apps on iOS and Android provide a rich graphical interface for full system control within the building.
Key Integration
Full air conditioning integration via KNX gateways (Intesis, Zennio) — covering Midea, Daikin, Samsung, LG, and most major AC brands. Room-by-room temperature setpoints, fan speed, mode, and scheduling — all unified under KNX and presented through Nice ELAN or the mobile app. Presence detector integration means AC turns off automatically when a room is unoccupied and adjusts when someone returns.
Key Integration
KNX-integrated access control covering smart deadbolts, biometric readers, video intercoms, and gate automation — all linked to KNX binary inputs and actuators. A visitor at the gate triggers a KNX scene: gate opens, entrance lights activate, camera feed appears on the nearest touchscreen. Leave-home mode locks every door, arms the system, turns off all loads, and closes the gate — from one button or one voice command.
Client Independence
One of the most important qualities of a KNX wired installation is that day-to-day maintenance and basic operations do not require a KNX-certified installer. The wired KNX infrastructure — actuators, cables, switches, power supplies — behaves like conventional electrical infrastructure once commissioned.
Any competent, experienced electrician can replace a faulty actuator, swap a damaged push button, or restore a tripped circuit — without needing ETS6 software or KNX certification. The system continues to function exactly as commissioned.
A KNX-certified integrator like Oricom Tech is only required when you want to change programming — adding new scenes, modifying group addresses, integrating new devices, or expanding the system. Routine maintenance is fully accessible to any qualified electrician.
This is by design. KNX was built as a building standard — like plumbing or electrical wiring — not a proprietary system that holds clients hostage to a single supplier.
"We hand over every project with full as-built documentation, ETS project files, and a system manual — so your building is never dependent on any single integrator for its day-to-day operation."
